Did you know that according to a 2009 study, pets with microchips are up to 20 times more likely to be returned to their owners?

What is a microchip?

A microchip is a permanent identification that can help prove ownership is a pet is lost or stolen. They are also required many times when traveling internationally.

Why should I get a microchip?

Collars can break, ID tags can fall off and some pets don’t even wear a collar. Pets can bolt out of doors, sneak outside without your knowledge, dig out of fences and much more. While nobody likes to think about it, pets can also be displaced from their homes and owners during natural disasters as well.

What do I do to get my pet implanted?

Give us a call to set up an appointment and that’s it! We’ll microchip your pet for you AND enroll your pet as part of the package so when you leave the clinic everything is taken care of!

What happens if I think my pet is already microchipped?

We can scan your pet at the clinic to see if, in fact, there is a microchip already implanted. We can also enter it in a database to find out if the information is enrolled or not. Many shelters and breeders will implant microchips at the time of adoption, but unless you receive a confirmation letter stating that your pet is enrolled, you need to follow up on the enrollment whether that means enrolling the pet yourself OR you can come by the clinic and we can do it for you. AKC Reunite allows enrollments for ANY microchip from ANY company.

What should I do after my pet is enrolled?

Once your pet is confirmed that it is enrolled, you do want to log in to the AKC Reunite website and update any contact information that you may have. If you have multiple pets who are microchipped they all may be listed under your profile.

Is there any housekeeping type of issue that I need to know?

Every year (at a minimum) you should login and make sure that your contact information is up to date. If you are traveling and taking your pet with you, you can update cell phone numbers and address information as well.
